Hey Y’all I received this message today from a concerned youth with OUTyouth, Austin’s LGBT Youth Organization. If the organization is there for the youth why wouldn’t they work with at least a youth liason to make sure the budget and the youth are pleased?
“Hey Pearle, The Board of Directors for Out Youth in Austin is laying off Lisa Rogers, an actual Co-Founder and former Executive Director for the organization. We, the youth, are outraged and are actually protesting this event. The Youth are gathering today at 1pm to discuss their approach. The Youth would like for you to email oyboard@outyouth.org and ask them to reverse their decision and let the youth decide who or what gets cut from the budget?”
One Youth has released this statement on his Facebook page!
Just so you know, I literally will not go to Out Youth without Lisa. There were literally times I went ONLY because of how nice and amazing she is to be around. It's bullshit and I think we need a huge group of youth and alum to raise hell about this...I mean really. I don't see Out Youth surviving as well as it has without her. They change too much, as does the rest of the staff members...Lisa has been the only consistent thing about Out Youth since I started going 5 years ago.
