Rosie O'Donnell to Buy Home in Chicago's Lakeview

Rosie O'Donnell, whose Chicago-based TV talk show debuts next month, is under contract to buy a 6,000-square-foot home in theLakeview neighborhood, according to two sources.

The seller is an executive at the Oprah Winfrey Network, which will air O'Donnell's new show, the sources said. The purchase price is close to the listed price of $2.5 million, according to one of the sources, who declined to be named because the sale is not final.

On Wednesday, O'Donnell told the audience at a test taping of "The Rosie Show," which premieres Oct. 10, that she was buying a home inWrigleyville. According to an audience member, O'Donnell said the seller agreed to include all of the furniture, or else she wouldn't have bought it. The home has five bedrooms, five-plus baths, a theater room and a 2,000-square-foot roof deck.

O'Donnell will still split her time between Chicago and New York, where she and ex-partner Kelli Carpenter share custody of their four children.

"I am going to head out (to Chicago) at the end of July and be there for the rest of the summer," O'Donnell said on her radio show earlier this year. "Then, starting in September when the kids go to school, Kelli has them a week, I have them a week. We'll do a week on, a week off."

But the planned home purchase, combined with her effusive comments and writings this week about Chicago, indicate she'll plant firmer roots here than she anticipated. In her first blog post for the new show's website on Sept. 9, O'Donnell wrote a poem, an ode to the Windy City. Two stanzas read:

i have fallen in love with this city
and it came as a surprise
shocking — really
i knew nothing of chicago

its beauty is startling
the wide clean streets
smiling hellos
the buckingham fountain took my breath away

At the Wednesday taping, O'Donnell noted that she had not yet experienced a Chicago winter, according to the attendee. The audience laughed. "I was hoping you all wouldn't laugh like that," she replied.
