AUSTIN, Texas (March 22, 2012) - Equality Texas and the Equality Texas Foundation are pleased to announce that Daniel Williams will join both organizations on April 9, 2012 as a statewide Field Organizer.
Daniel Williams"Daniel has extensive experience in the field and in Austin," said Executive Director Dennis Coleman. "Daniel has been a Legislative Aide in the office of State Representative Lon Burnam, the Operations Director for the Dallas Peace Center, and a field coordinator for Equality Texas' 2011 Lobby Day at the Capitol. He has years of working with a wide variety of advocacy organizations, from HIV/AIDS to criminal justice issues, from street activism to faith-based non-profits, across racial, religious and partisan divides."
Most recently, Daniel served as the Parish Administrator at Grace Lutheran Church in Houston, as well as the editor of Houstini.com
"When I was 19," Williams said, "I attended a hearing on hate crimes legislation in Texas and heard Rep. Senfronia Thompson speak passionately on why it was needed. I was immediately hooked on the Texas Legislature. For more than a decade since, I have been very fortunate to get to work with and for people under that big pink dome in Austin. I'm incredibly excited to start this next step in my journey with the wonderful people at Equality Texas and can't wait to get to work."
Williams will be tasked with statewide field support for Equality Texas' legislative advocacy work, as well as coordination of the Equality Texas Foundation's civic engagement programs, including:
