In a tragic story coming out of Akron, Ohio, a 13 month-old baby died after she was left alone inside of a sweltering car for hours last Friday.
The details are still a bit murky, but the incident occurred after a babysitter brought five children to a day care center for a “play date.” While she took four of the children into the facility, she apparently left Aolani McCray in the vehicle. WEWS-TV reports:
The play date was set for 9:30 a.m., but it wasn’t until 1:55 p.m. that the babysitter realized the child wasn’t with her.
Upon discovering the baby, she was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. Charges have not yet been filed against the 3o-year-old babysitter and investigators are still working to sort out the details. The New York Daily News has more:

Police Capt. Dan Zampelli told the Beacon Journal that she appears to have died from heat exhaustion.The child’s family is heartbroken by the incident. Among other details, detectives are currently attempting to figure out exactly how long the child was left in the car.
“As we do with every sudden death, we always investigate,” Zampelli said, adding that the 30-year-old sitter has not been charged with a crime.
